How to Identify a Twisted Stitch
Learning to look at the legs of your stitches is one of the easiest ways to understand how a stitch is sitting on your needle.
In the video, I show you close-up examples of correctly and incorrectly mounted stitches so you can see the difference before you knit them.
You’ll learn how to:
Identify the orientation of a stitch on your needle
Recognize when knitting a stitch normally could cause it to twist
Remount a stitch before knitting it
Work through the appropriate loop to avoid twisting the stitch
Recognize the crossed legs of an already twisted stitch
Undo and correct a twisted stitch
Why Do Knitting Stitches Become Twisted?
A twisted stitch is created when the legs of the stitch cross over one another.
This can easily happen when stitches are placed back onto the needle in a different orientation—for example, after taking stitches off your needle or correcting a knitting mistake.
Once you learn to read the orientation of your stitches, it becomes much easier to recognize when something looks different and correct it before continuing.
