Learn how to divide for the sleeves when knitting a top-down raglan sweater.

In this knitting tutorial, I’ll show you step by step how to place your sleeve stitches on hold, cast on stitches at the underarm using the backward loop cast-on, and continue knitting the body of your raglan sweater in the round.

In this tutorial you’ll learn how to:
• Identify the sleeve stitches between your raglan markers
• Place sleeve stitches on hold using scrap yarn
• Cast on underarm stitches with the backward loop cast-on
• Avoid twisting your sleeve stitches when placing them on hold
• Join the front and back of your sweater and continue knitting the body in the round
• Keep the stitches around the underarm neat and secure

This technique is commonly used when knitting top-down raglan pullovers and is the point where your sweater really begins to take shape.

Happy Knitting,

XO Kim
